Someone supporting someone through a breathwork practice

What is Breathwork?

Breathwork is a guided 30 minute practice that uses your breathing to work directly with your body and nervous system.

By changing the way you breathe, you can begin to shift how you feel — physically, mentally, and emotionally.

It can feel energising, releasing, sometimes even surprising. For some, it’s the first time they’ve been able to move through emotions that have felt stuck for years. For others, it’s a way to slow down, reconnect, and create space in a busy mind.

I am a qualified Breathwork facilitator, accredited by the IPHM

“I came into the breathwork session feeling anxious and unsure what to expect, but left feeling deeply relaxed, calm, and more confident in myself. Since the session, I’ve noticed a shift in how I carry myself, how I process difficult thoughts, and how openly I connect with others. Breathwork helped me feel more grounded, self-aware, and compassionate towards myself.”

What you can get from breathwork?

You might already have ways of trying to shift how you feel; getting outside, moving your body, taking a moment to clear your head.

Breathwork builds on that, in a more focused and supported way. It is about inner child based healing, but is in no way spiritual. It's about bringing you back to your authentic self. You know, the version of you before the world and life got in the way

It can help you release stress, process what’s been sitting under the surface, and bring a clearer, more regulated state to your system.

It can go deep, but it’s always approached with care, creating a safe space to move through what’s there, at a pace that works for you.

Breathwork is not suitable for anyone under 18, pregnant or anyone who has epilepsy
For queries on any other medical conditions, please contact Rich who will be happy to advise.
In many instances, it will be recommended you contact your doctor or medical practice to confirm if this is feasible for you at this time. Feel free to share this page with them for their awareness and understanding.

What is Conscious Connected Breathwork?

Breathwork is a continuous, mouth-based and connected, cyclical breathing pattern that gently activates the body’s natural emotional release processes. It is a practice that is over 5,000 years old, designed to shut down your mind and allow your body and nervous system to feel emotions that may have been trapped or blocked in the past.

It supports nervous system regulation, improved circulation, and overall physical ease.

It can be deep work, a lot of emotions can come up.

Modern life is designed to keep us in our minds; we rationalise, we think and we process. Conscious Connected Breathwork is a practice that allows you to not think and to just feel. As your Facilitator, I will guide you through, keep you safe and ensure you have space to release your emotions.

I’ll guide you through in a way that’s both safe and deeply supportive, inviting you to connect with and feel what’s been held or locked away.

What happens in a Breathwork Session?

Breathwork Technique

A diagram on how to do cyclical breathing

Breathwork sessions will always begin with a run through to the breathing pattern that is used. It is an unnatural feel to the breathes you're taking and can take a while to find a rhythm.

Each session will begin with a safety talk for anyone who hasn't been before or those who need a reminder.

During the first cycle, you can find that your mind gets loud. This is normal. The breath is designed to close off your mind and allow your nervous system and body to take over. Your mind will try to fight that.

At any point, emotions may come over you. This is completely normal and you are invited to let them out. Whether that's the need to move your body, cry, laugh, smile; they're all welcome. Let it happen and if you get out of the breathing pattern, it's ok, just get back to it when you are able.

Breathwork Session run through

The process steps for how to do a conscious connected breathwork

Grounding

This is a short period to allow you to relax, shake off whatever you were doing right before you start the breathwork and allow you to just calm your body

Cyclical breathing

This is where you will get into the technique outlined in this section. These can go on for about 7-9 minutes, allowing you to get a rhythm with the breathing pattern.

Retentions

At the end of each cycle of breathing, I will count down from 3 and invite you to empty your body of air. After 20-30 seconds, you will be told to breathe back in and hold for a few seconds before getting back into the cyclical breathing

Release

This is where you are invited to release any emotion that has built through the Breathwork. This can be. a scream, laughter, yelling, moving your arms and legs around or however you feel you need in that moment.

Re-integration

During this period, I will do a short visualisation followed by a reading to gently ease you back into your body. After this, I will allow music play for a while and allow you to come around at a pace that suits you.

What will happen to me during Breathwork?

Mentally 🧠The mind often gets very loud in the first 5–10 minutes. This is normal, just focus on the breathe. This practice is designed to shut off the mind so this is to be expected. Unless you panic, keep going with the pattern. After the first retention, it will quieten, just focus on the breathing pattern.eeds to, allow yourself to take up space.

Physically 🫁You can experience pins and needles, get tingling in your arms and legs, tightness in your jaw, hands or feet. Allow your body to move as it needs. If it becomes intense, slow your breathing and stay in the pattern. During or afterwards, you could go hot or cold, your mouth may go dry.

Emotionally ❤️This can be deep work, and large emotional reactions are possible. Rich is trauma-informed and will be on hand to guide you through. The grounding exercise after the release will enable you to come around gently. If emotions come, put sound to it, let your body move as it needs to, allow yourself to take up space.
